12/3/2021 2:56:02 PM

If you get into a D2R Lightning Sorceress build, Chain Lightning vs Lightning, which skill to focus on and when to focus on? When both of them are used, when to use one of them, and when to use another one? Around these questions, here we’ll compare Lightning vs Chain Lightning in Diablo 2 Resurrected and learn to make a better decision at a certain time.

Chain Lightning vs Lightning in D2

What is Lightning in Diablo 2 Resurrected?

Lightning is a versatile skill of Sorceress with the best end-game capabilities but has high gear requirements, so it’s not recommended for leveling up in the game. However, when you got all the Diablo 2 gear equipped, you can create the best end-game D2R Lightning Sorceress build.

What is Chain Lightning in Diablo 2 Resurrected?

Chain Lightning is a Lightning Spell skill for Sorceress in Diablo 2, when you cast it, it expels a bolt of electricity that passes through multiple enemies and deal damage, it makes up for the lack of Area of Effect skills.

Chain Lightning vs Lightning in D2, What’s the Difference and Which One is Better?

Is Chain Lightning good in D2R? There are some great advantages with Chain Lightning in terms of strategically staying out of the way. Chain Lightning is different from Lightning, as it automatically targets itself to the nearest enemy until it reaches its maximum number of hit targets. While Lightning straight up passes through all targets in its path, doing damage that is really good for anything in a straight line, but anything a little bit out of the line left or right of the line will get missed.

Another difference is that, with Lightning, you can do more damage but you got to find a good position and you can't always find one, with Chain Lightning, your position is pretty much always solid, no matter where you go.

Which is better between Lightning and Chain Lightning, the answer to that is they are better together, you have to get them both. If you really want to max out your lightning skill, circumstantially Lightning can better, and becoming a good Lightning Sorceress means identifying which monster configuration is best suited for which of these two options. As a lightning sorceress, realistically you're going to be balancing back and forth between Lightning and Chain Lightning depending on the layout of monsters and basically the configuration of the attack group that you're facing up against, and then that is actually becoming a good Lightning Sorceress, knowing which one is the right spell for the right layout and that's how you play it.

When and How Should You Use Lightning and Chain Lightning?

If you don’t have a high skill level, Chain Lightning does less damage, but it will basically hit most of the targets, if there are only a fewer number of targets, it will start bouncing around between them. So even though it has a lower amount of damage, it can hit the same targets over and over again. Depending on how many targets you have, the layout and configuration of the enemies that you are facing, one or the other may end up being your better and more viable damage output option. There's still a whole bunch of enemies that are getting missed by that Lightning spell, even though it does more damage, it can almost be beneficial, just to throw off that Chain Lightning that gets everything in its hit recovery phase.

When things are getting hit recovered when things aren't chasing after you, you have more time to just sit there and spit out Lightning, if you're running away with like a Lightning spell, if a bunch of things is getting through your lightning arc, then you've got to stop casting, you got to move around a little bit. Lightning absolutely deals out so much damage, it just knocks stuff down, so you can keep it pointing in the direction of the enemies and keep back and forth and slowing down anything that's getting too close. Keep the mouse cursor nearby, hold down the attack spell and then you can aim with this subtlety of directional change and keep everything on a distance, if you are directly casting on a target, for example, as soon as that target dies, your Chain Lightning stops and you don't want it to stop, so you just want to cast a little bit in front of you, and aim it manually just to keep that maximum damage flowing.
