We've been playing around with the 4231 formations and we found it very fun to play with. So, how to play the 4231 formations in FUT 23? Therefore, we wanted to share our tactics for it.
4231 Tactics
This is more of a possession and passing play style, so if you like that type of play style, give these tactics a try.
Defensive Style: Balanced Width: 45 Depth: 60-65 (Depending on how deep you want your team)
Build Up play: Either Balanced, Slow Build-Up, or Fast Build-Up This entirely depends on what build-up play you prefer. We personally like Balanced, but from time to time we’ll switch to Fast Build Up.
Width: 35 Players in Box: 9
Corners and FKs: 2
4231 Player Instructions
ST: Stay Central and everything else leave it as it is. The goal here is to have your ST get more involved in the build-up and play through balls to your LAM and RAM. You want to have an ST with good positioning and passing ability.
LAM AND RAM: Both on Drift Wide and Get Into The Box For Cross. You want players that are quick, have good dribbling abilities, and decent passing.
CAM: Get Into The Box For Cross and Free Roam. Any player with good offensive stats and passing stats is fine.
LCDM: Cover Center. You ideally want a box-to-box player in this position but any player that is a well-rounded CM is fine! I personally use Pirlo in this position and he is everywhere for me.
RCDM: Drop Between Defenders and Cover Center. You want a good CM or CDM with a High defensive work rate and good defensive and physical stats as well.
LB: Overlap. This player will also help as an extra passing option and for through balls.
RB: Stay back.
CBS: Leave them as they are.
GK: Comes for crosses and sweeper keeper.
Overall the gist of these tactics is to keep possession and pass it around until the opponent is forced to drag one of their players out of position and leave open spaces. With how players usually play, it will annoy 90% of them, and will become frustrated when they don’t have the majority of the possession, which will lead to them making mistakes.
