Severed Hands in Lords of the Fallen
The main currency exchanged at the Sacred Shrine is severed hands. These drop from certain elite enemies throughout Nostria. The three enemies with the highest severed hand drop rates are:
Inferno Enchanters: These pyromancer enemies can be found in several areas. They drop 1 severed hand each on average.
Ruiners: Large warrior enemies that hit hard. They have a 2 severed hand drop rate.
Light Reapers: Shadowy reaper-like enemies that summon clones. They drop 3 severed hands each, making them the most lucrative target.
Farming Paths and Enemy Types
Severed Hand Lower-Level Farming Path: Upper Cal Wrath Mining District
For those who are not fully geared or are still honing their skills, the Upper Cal Wrath Mining District west of Dome is an excellent starting point. Here's how you navigate this area:
Entry: Head through the right-side door and down the hill.
Path Following: Stick to the path despite initial confusion (you can't go through the gate directly), and you have the option to run past enemies or engage them based on your preference.
Crimson Ritual: Be wary of PvP invitations; defeating another player can net you nine severed hands, but it's not the focus of this guide.
Elite Enemies: Look out for the Ruiner who drops two hands, and The Inferno Enchantress who drops one. After defeating them, place your Vestige Seed to rest and reset the enemies.
Optional Enemy: There's a bald-headed chicken-like enemy inside a room on this path, which may or may not drop hands. This remains unconfirmed.
This is an easy loop that can be completed quickly despite the area's low-level enemies. With patience, you should be able to build up a nice cache of severed hands without much risk of death.
Severed Hand Higher-Level Farming Path: Castle Bras
For dedicated farming or those ready to face tougher challenges for greater rewards:
Starting Point: Teleport to Castle Bras and navigate through the castle, heading left at the top of the stairs and then taking an immediate left past the fire blockade using the umbrell.
Elite Enemies: Engage with multiple Inferno Enchantresses and a Light Reaper type enemy who can drop up to three hands. Be cautious, as these are tougher enemies.
Strategy: Use Rabbit Paws for better drop rates, and if not, consider a shorter version of the path to save time.
Path Complexity: This path involves a series of elite enemies and requires careful navigation and combat strategy, including using the umbrell to bypass fire and siphoning guardians to weaken foes.
End of the Path: After killing the final Ruiner, loop back to reset the path.
Enemies to Prioritize
When farming either route, focus first on Light Reapers for their invaluable 3 severed hand drops. After, hunt down Ruiners whose 2 hand drops really add up over time. Only engage Inferno Enchanters if no higher value targets remain. Avoid normal monsters unless necessary to reach elites more efficiently.
Utilizing Gear and Consumables
To maximize your farming efficiency, equip any gear that increases item discovery rates. Rings with the Scavenger trait will dramatically boost your currency finds. Pop consumables like Discovery Unguent before each loop to layer on extra luck.
Consider respeccing your character to a ranged glass cannon build utilizing explosive throwables. This allows safely taking down tougher foes from a distance without reprisal. Just be prepared to chug Vigor potions often!
With the right approach and loadout, dedicated farmers should have no trouble accumulating 50+ severed hands per hour even on the basic routes. The Sacred Shrine provides a satisfying way to permanently upgrade your character. So get out there, slay those elite Nostrians, and donate hands galore to further power up your hero!
Pilfered Coin Farming Path: Imperion Vestige
In addition to severed hands, pilfered coins are another valuable commodity accepted at the Shrine. These small bronze coins have a chance to drop from any humanoid enemy, but certain foes offer improved rates. The best place to farm pilfered coins is the path leading to the Imperion Vestige in Dome. Run straight out of the shrine area and follow the path, avoiding radiant projectiles. Around every corner await twin enemies that consistently drop 1-2 coins each when slain.
Take time to also avenge nearby lanterns left by other players' deaths. Not only does this reward you with health and stamina restore items, but avenged enemies occasionally yield extra coins as a bo
